| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse consists of a Spanish colonial Mexico City 8 Reales host coin bearing the laureate and draped bust of King Carlos IV facing right, with the legend CAROLUS·IIII·DEI·GRATIA surrounding the effigy. Applied at the center is an official countermark in the form of a dotted oval cartouche bearing the inscription E.&.D 3.G.L, denoting the colony of Essequibo and Demerara and the revalued denomination of 3 Guilders. A large crenated (star-shaped) central hole has been cut through the coin, a characteristic feature of this emergency currency issue. |
