John I of Denmark — known in Danish as Hans — issued this coin during a reign defined by his ultimately successful campaign to reclaim the Swedish crown, which he held from 1497 until the Swedish revolt of 1501. The 3 Noble denomination itself was borrowed directly from the English Noble tradition, a deliberate signal of monetary ambition from a king working to consolidate Scandinavian authority.
