The Australian Army Canteen Service issued these notes exclusively for use within BCOF canteen facilities, keeping Australian servicemen's spending power corralled away from the Japanese civilian economy at a time when yen inflation was severe and fraternization through commerce was actively discouraged. Miller, the Melbourne commercial printer, produced the series without the high-security features typical of military currency — a reflection of the notes' purely internal, non-convertible function rather than any oversight.
