The k.k. Staats-Central-Cassa 30 Gulden of 1848 exists because Austria's imperial government needed emergency liquidity fast. The revolutionary upheavals of that year — Vienna, Budapest, Prague, Milan — strained state finances to the point where conventional banking instruments couldn't keep pace with demand. The Staats-Central-Cassa, a treasury institution rather than a proper bank of issue, was pressed into producing anticipation notes to bridge the gap.
The 30 Gulden denomination is an odd one, uncommon in Austrian paper money before and after this period, and Pick lists this as a scarce type. Surviving examples with intact serial numbers and legible treasury seals command serious attention.
