Burma's wartime pattern coinage of 1942 emerged from the Japanese occupation administration's effort to establish a functioning monetary system following the Imperial Army's sweep through the country earlier that year. Whether this aluminium piece was ever seriously considered for mass production remains unclear — Japan's own wartime metal shortages made aluminium an attractive candidate, but the Ba Maw puppet government's monetary infrastructure never stabilized sufficiently to see most pattern proposals through to circulation.
No confirmed struck circulation examples of this denomination in this metal are known from the occupation period.
