| Obverse description | Conjoined busts of King Aleksandar I and Queen Marija facing left in profile, with the Queen positioned slightly in front of the King. The Queen wears an ornate diadem crown, while the King is depicted in military dress uniform with heavily decorated epaulettes and medals. A Cyrillic legend curves around the upper periphery, and the mint name appears in the lower field. The portraits are rendered in high relief with fine detail, set within a beaded border. |

Pattern coins from interwar Yugoslavia are poorly documented, and this bronze strike of the 4 Dukata is almost certainly a presentation or trial piece produced to test dies rather than for any contemplated circulation. The gold production version of this date — KM#14.2 — was minted in quantity and used largely as a store of value and gift piece rather than everyday currency, a common function for high-denomination Yugoslav gold in the Aleksandar period.
Aleksandar I was assassinated in Marseille in October 1934, making all issues bearing his portrait terminus pieces of a reign defined by royal dictatorship declared in 1929.
