Additional information

Pattern coins from interwar Yugoslavia are poorly documented, and this bronze strike of the 4 Dukata is almost certainly a presentation or trial piece produced to test dies rather than for any contemplated circulation. The gold production version of this date — KM#14.2 — was minted in quantity and used largely as a store of value and gift piece rather than everyday currency, a common function for high-denomination Yugoslav gold in the Aleksandar period.

Aleksandar I was assassinated in Marseille in October 1934, making all issues bearing his portrait terminus pieces of a reign defined by royal dictatorship declared in 1929.
