| Obverse description | The arms of the Chilean Republic occupy the central field, depicting the early national coat of arms: two snow-capped volcanoes flanked by a flowering branch at left and a laurel branch at right, surmounted by a radiant sun with a human face. The entire device is encircled by a laurel and oak wreath tied at the base. A rectangular cartouche below the mountains bears the date A.D 1818, referencing the year of Chilean independence.
