Obverse description The arms of the Chilean Republic occupy the central field, depicting the early national coat of arms: two snow-capped volcanoes flanked by a flowering branch at left and a laurel branch at right, surmounted by a radiant sun with a human face. The entire device is encircled by a laurel and oak wreath tied at the base. A rectangular cartouche below the mountains bears the date A.D 1818, referencing the year of Chilean independence. The surrounding legend reads EL ESTADO DE CHILE CONSTIT. INDEPENDIENTE, distributed around the periphery within a milled border.
