| Obverse description | Facing full-length effigy of Emperor Constans II, bearded and wearing an elaborate jewelled crown, depicted in imperial robes with a loros collar. The emperor holds a globus cruciger in his right hand, presented in a hieratic, frontal style characteristic of late Byzantine provincial coinage. Partial Greek inscription appears in the field to either side of the figure, including characters suggestive of a regnal or titulary legend. The flan is irregular and the strike somewhat crude, consistent with the Syracuse mint's production style of the mid-seventh century. |
