Above the monogram, the denomination inscription 48 · ST · (48 Stuiver) appears in capital letters separated by pellet stops. The design is enclosed within a rope or beaded inner border, beyond which a broad band of decorative scrollwork and pellet clusters fills the space to the outer beaded rim, mirroring the ornamental treatment of the obverse. The composition is austere and functional, reflecting the emergency nature of the issue, with the VOC cipher serving as the principal emblem of commercial and administrative authority. |
