Opmerkingen

Jujuy's provincial australes notes were a direct consequence of the 1989–1991 hyperinflationary collapse that paralyzed Argentina's federal monetary system. With the central government unable to supply sufficient currency, several provinces resorted to issuing their own quasi-money — locally printed obligations that circulated by necessity rather than legal mandate. Jujuy was among the smaller, poorer provinces to do so, which meant these notes were produced in limited quantities and saw hard use in a cash-starved local economy.

The 5,000-australes denomination reflects just how far the currency had deteriorated by 1990. Within months of issue, the national austral itself was replaced by the peso convertible, rendering all provincial scrip worthless.
