Beschrijving voorzijde The obverse presents a document-style layout with a central bold inscription reading MARKA 5000 MARKA within a plain border, above a line of text in Estonian spelling out the denomination in words. The heading Eesti Vabariigi 6%-line kassa-veksel is printed across the upper portion, with date and series fields left partially blank consistent with a trial or proof specimen. A large red overprint letter V and a red R cancel are applied diagonally across the face, alongside an embossed circular seal reading EV, with three signature lines at the foot accompanied by role titles.

Opmerkingen

Estonia's early marka issues were produced under serious logistical constraints — the republic had declared independence in 1918 and was still building functional institutions when this series was commissioned. The "R" suffix in the Pick reference denotes a remainder: this note was never formally issued into circulation, remaining uncut or unfinished in the printing inventory.

Remainders from this series occasionally surface with the embossed seal applied and sometimes without, which has created authentication headaches. The seal itself was the primary security measure the young treasury could deploy — sophisticated intaglio printing was simply not an option at the time.
