Additional information

Rwanda's 2009 coinage program was part of a broader post-genocide economic reconstruction effort, with the Banque Nationale du Rwanda modernizing the circulating series as the country rebuilt financial infrastructure under the RPF government. Brass-plated steel replaced solid brass in small denominations during this period as a straightforward cost-reduction measure.
