Ethiopia's Derg regime, which had deposed Haile Selassie in 1974, retained Thomas De La Rue for this 1976 issue — a pragmatic continuity given the revolutionary government's immediate need for functioning currency while the country's financial institutions were being reorganized under Marxist restructuring. The National Bank itself had been nationalized in 1975.
P#31 belongs to the first series issued under the Derg, and the retention of De La Rue reflected limited alternatives rather than ideological comfort with a British commercial printer.
