| Obverse description | Blue-grey underprint with an ornate guilloche border framing the entire face. The denomination numeral "5" appears in circular vignettes at each corner, while the issuer legend "THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT" is printed in bold letterpress across the upper field above the large central inscription "FIVE CENTAVOS". Block letter prefix characters in red appear at lower left and right, with a small "V" device and Japanese kanji legend reading "日本帝國政府" centred along the lower margin. |
