背面描述 Two Fork-tailed Flycatchers (Tyrannus savana) are depicted perched on a flowering branch in the central field, rendered in finely detailed relief; the left bird displays its characteristic elongated forked tail feathers extending toward the lower left. Flowering blooms and leafy sprigs surround the birds, lending a naturalistic, ornithological character to the design. The denomination 5 CENTS is inscribed in bold relief along the upper portion of the field. The entire design is contained within a beaded border.

附加信息

Belize's wildlife coin program of the 1970s and 1980s was driven in part by the country's transition from British Honduras — independence came in 1981, and the new government moved deliberately to replace colonial iconography with native fauna. The Fork-tailed Flycatcher, a long-distance migrant that breeds in South America and winters as far north as Central America, is a visitor rather than a resident in Belize, which makes its selection for circulating coinage an unusual ornithological choice.

The .925 silver version runs parallel to the base-metal circulation strike — a proof or collector issue rather than anything that saw pockets or tills.
