The Central Bank of Kuwait was established in 1969, taking over monetary authority from the Kuwait Currency Board, which had itself only existed since 1961 — the year Kuwait gained full independence from Britain. The 50th anniversary this coin marks is therefore also, obliquely, a commemoration of the post-independence monetary architecture the country built from scratch.
Gold-plated .999 silver issues of this type are frequently produced by the Pobjoy Mint or similar contracted European facilities on behalf of Gulf states, though Kuwait's official documentation on this KM#52 issue does not publicly specify the striking facility.
