Large numeral "5" counters appear in the four corners, flanked by side vignettes of seated figures; the header reads "LOWER CANADA" with the bank name "THE MECHANICS BANK" in bold letterpress across the centre. A manuscript date of May 1, 1837, place of issue "MONTREAL," and the promise to pay "FIVE DOLLARS on demand" are inscribed in the lower portion, with two handwritten signatures below. |
