正面描述	Black intaglio print on white cotton paper with a red safety fibre underprint. The centre bears a large guilloché vignette with the numeral 5 in the middle, flanked by two oval portrait vignettes — a male figure to the left and another to the right — both rendered in fine intaglio engraving. The ornate script bank title arcs across the upper centre above the promise clause, with the place and date of issue reading HALIFAX, N.S. JANUARY 2ND 1929 at lower centre, and the denomination FIVE DOLLARS in bold letterpress along the bottom border.

背面描述	Printed entirely in green intaglio, the reverse is dominated by a large central guilloché rosette with the bank's armorial seal at its heart, inscribed INCORPORATED SINCE 1832. The bold bank title THE BANK OF NOVA SCOTIA runs across the top in capital letters, while large numeral 5 counters appear in each corner within intricate lathe-work borders. A repeated micro-text band reading FIVE 5 FIVE 5 runs along the bottom margin.
