| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse is printed in a monochrome blue, dominated by a large intaglio landscape vignette of a rushing river scene framed by dense coniferous forest and distant mountains under a clouded sky, evoking the Canadian wilderness. The denomination numerals '5' appear in each corner, with the bilingual legends 'FIVE DOLLARS' and 'CINQ DOLLARS' running along the top and 'BANK OF CANADA – BANQUE DU CANADA' along the bottom. The composition is framed by intricate guilloche border work along all four edges. |

| Opmerkingen |
The 1954 series is inseparable from the "Devil's Face" controversy. In the original engraving, the highlight shading in the Queen's hair was widely read by the public as a leering demonic profile. The Bank of Canada denied any intentional imagery, but public pressure was sustained enough that BABN re-engraved the hair before the end of the decade — making the early "Devil's Face" issues a distinct and collectable variant within the series.
Four signature combinations were issued across nearly two decades, with the Coyne-Beattie pairing confined to the modified hair design after the controversy had already forced the re-engraving.
