背面描述 The reverse carries a bilingual literary quotation in the centre, flanked by vignettes of quintessential Canadian winter scenes: children playing hockey, a child sledding, and a child learning to ice-skate with an adult. The composition is rendered in blue tones consistent with the face, with the numeral "5" appearing at each side and a print-year inscription at the lower margin.

备注

Czesław Słania engraved this note — a detail worth pausing on. The Polish-Swedish master was responsible for over a thousand postage stamp engravings and worked for numerous central banks, but his Canadian commissions are among his most technically demanding intaglio work. The portrait quality here reflects a craftsman at the peak of his output, well into his seventies when this series was produced.

The 2001–2005 Canadian Journey series was the first Bank of Canada issue to incorporate a holographic stripe as a primary security feature, replacing the earlier Birds of Canada series in direct response to improved counterfeiting technology detected in the late 1990s.
