The Antarctica Overseas Exchange Office Ltd. is a private novelty issuer, not a sovereign or territorial monetary authority. These notes have no legal tender status anywhere and were produced as collectibles from the outset. The Great Auk — extinct since 1844 — is an odd choice for Antarctic theming, as the bird was native to the North Atlantic, not the Southern Ocean. Penguins aside, the auk never came within thousands of miles of the continent on the note's face.
Printed by Crane Currency's polymer facility in Custer, Washington, which also produces security substrates for legitimate banknotes.
