| 背面描述 | A richly detailed, coloured high-relief depiction of Christopher Columbus shown in three-quarter bust to the left, wearing a tricorn hat and period-appropriate draped attire, occupying the left portion of the field. To the right, the carrack Santa Maria is portrayed under full sail on stylised waves, its billowing white sails decorated with prominent red crosses of the Order of Christ, rendered in colour. The ship's hull, rigging, and masts are finely engraved with exceptional detail. The script name Santa Maria appears in elegant cursive lettering in the upper field, while the date 2026 is inscribed at the base and the legend 1492 · COLUMBUS DISCOVERS THE NEW WORLD runs along the right periphery. |

The Santa María is often misremembered as Columbus's flagship, but that role belonged to the Niña, which Columbus himself preferred. The Santa María ran aground off the coast of Hispaniola on Christmas Day 1492 and was never recovered — her timbers were reportedly salvaged to construct the first European settlement in the Americas, La Navidad. Cook Islands has issued collector silver under Charles III since his accession in September 2022, continuing a long-running commemorative program that trades heavily on maritime and explorer themes.
