Reverse description Printed entirely in blue on plain paper. The design is symmetrically composed around a large central oval guilloche medallion carrying the bank name "COLONIAL BANK" in bold capitals, flanked by two circular rosette medallions. Above and below the central oval, ornate acanthus scroll vignettes frame oval counters each bearing the numeral "5" within fine engine-turned lathe-work. The printer's imprint "Perkins Bacon & Co. Ld. London" appears in small text at the lower centre. The overall composition is characteristic of Perkins Bacon's mid-Victorian security engraving style.
