| 裏面の説明 | A branch of Kowhai (Sophora microphylla) with pendant yellow blossoms occupies the left portion of the note, while a finely engraved Tui bird (Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae) perches on a branch at centre right, rendered in intaglio against a multicoloured guilloche background in orange and olive tones. The numeral '5' appears in circular guilloche vignettes at lower left and upper right, and the issuer's name is set in a solid red band along the lower margin. |

Bradbury Wilkinson printed New Zealand's paper issues for decades, and this series carried that relationship into its final phase — the firm closed in 1990, absorbed into De La Rue, before the series ran its full course. Notes signed by Brash therefore came from a different production arrangement, though the plate design remained consistent throughout.
Three governors across eleven years means signature varieties drive most of the collector interest here. The Hardie-signed notes from the early 1980s are the most readily encountered; Russell signatures occupy the middle run.
