Obverse description Printed in blue-grey on a pale underprint with a repeating fan and "HELL BANK NOTE" guilloche pattern. Central vignette shows a portrait of the Jade Emperor in imperial robes within an ornate cartouche; to the left a denomination panel reads 伍圓 / DOLLARS, and to the right a circular vignette of a traditional gateway bears the inscription 地府通用 / 冥府紙幣. Two facsimile signatures appear in the lower field.

Reverse description Printed in green on plain paper. Left half bears a large guilloche oval medallion with the numeral "5" and "DOLLARS" at centre. Right half carries a detailed line-engraved vignette of a multi-tiered Chinese palatial building flanked by trees, with 副行長 閻羅 and 行長 玉皇 inscriptions flanking the scene. Corner tablets repeat 伍圓 in traditional script.
