Ultramar Ltd., the Canadian petroleum retailer, issued gift certificates in dollar denominations as part of promotional and loyalty programs in the early 2000s. These were redeemable against fuel or in-store purchases at Ultramar stations, primarily in Quebec and Atlantic Canada where the brand held its strongest retail presence. They circulated in the same way as cash among customers but carried no legal tender status and expired under the issuer's terms.
The "Fat 5" designation in the catalog refers to the typographic style of the denomination numeral — a collector shorthand distinguishing this from other printings in the same series.
