| 裏面の説明 | The large numeral '5' is prominently displayed in the upper central field, with the Armenian script denomination ԴՐԱՄ (Dram) inscribed directly below it. The date 1994 appears at the base of the design, all enclosed within a wreath of two crossed olive branches whose stems meet at the bottom of the coin. The overall composition is clean and uncluttered, with the wreath and legends centered symmetrically against a plain field. |

Armenia's first post-Soviet coinage series, introduced in 1994, marked the country's return to the dram after decades of the Soviet ruble. The dram itself had been Armenia's historic currency before Soviet incorporation, last used in the early 1920s. These aluminum issues were an emergency practical solution — the newly independent state needed circulating coinage quickly and cheaply, and aluminum delivered exactly that.
