Issued under Spain's ECU commemorative program, this piece honors Joan Miró despite the artist having died in 1983 — over a decade before striking. The ECU itself never circulated as legal tender in Spain; these copper-nickel issues were produced purely for the collector market during the final years before the euro made the unit obsolete entirely.
