| 表面の説明 | A panoramic cityscape scene fills the field, depicting recognizable European architectural landmarks including a domed building, a Gothic cathedral spire, a Ferris wheel, a Roman aqueduct, and a steamboat at lower left, alongside a steam locomotive at right. The date 1995 appears in the upper right field, surrounded by a semicircle of twelve five-pointed stars referencing the European Union. The legend AUSTRIA is inscribed in large letters across the lower field, with the denomination 5 ECU displayed along the bottom rim. A designer's signature is visible in the lower right field. |

Austria's ECU issues were never legal tender — they were produced under a European Monetary Institute framework that allowed member states to strike collector pieces denominated in ECU before the euro's introduction, without those coins entering circulation. This Strauss issue appeared in the centenary year of his death, 1899 having marked the end of a career that had done more than any single composer to define Vienna's international image across the second half of the nineteenth century.
