Reverse description The Portuguese national emblem is depicted centrally, comprising the armorial shield of Portugal — bearing the five quinas in saltire and the bordure of castles — superimposed on an armillary sphere mounted on a stylized cross of the Order of Christ. The circular legend REPUBLICA•PORTUGUESA arcs around the upper and lateral periphery within a beaded border. The date 1970, flanked by small decorative stars, is inscribed along the lower portion of the field beneath the central device.
