| Obverse description | Central device features the armorial shield of Portuguese Timor superimposed upon an armillary sphere, the traditional symbol of Portuguese maritime expansion. The shield displays the five quinas and the bordure of castles characteristic of the Portuguese royal arms. Above the sphere, a row of five municipal crowns arches across the upper field. The territorial name TIMOR is inscribed in large letters along the upper periphery within a beaded border, while the denomination 5$00 appears in bold numerals along the lower periphery. Small floral rosettes flank the central device at left and right. |
