| Additional information |
Krastyo Sarafov was Bulgaria's most celebrated theatrical actor of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, credited almost single-handedly with establishing a professional performance standard at the National Theatre in Sofia. He spent years training in Russia before returning to shape Bulgarian dramatic art at a moment when the country's cultural institutions were barely a generation old.
The 2026 date places this issue in the run-up to the 150th anniversary of his birth.
