| 裏面の説明 | Central field displays the Arabic numeral '5' within a raised circular border, above which the denomination legend 'FIVE FILS' is inscribed in the field. The Gregorian date '1949' appears below the central circle in the lower field. The peripheral legend 'THE HASHEMITE KINGDOM OF THE JORDAN' runs around the upper portion of the coin in Latin script, separated by a small decorative six-pointed star at the base. The entire design is enclosed within a finely toothed milled border. |

Jordan's first coin series, issued in 1949, predates the country's formal declaration as the Hashemite Kingdom by just months — Abdullah I had proclaimed the kingdom in 1946, but currency reform lagged as the new state consolidated administrative infrastructure following the end of the British Mandate. These bronze pieces were struck at the Royal Mint in London, a dependency that would continue for decades as Jordan lacked domestic minting capacity.
The 1949 series also appeared the same year as the first Arab-Israeli War's formal ceasefire agreements, with Jordan having annexed the West Bank in the conflict's aftermath — a political reality that shaped the economic zone these coins were actually meant to serve.
