Obverse description Bare-headed left-facing effigy of King Leopold II with full beard and naturalistically rendered hair, the portrait executed in high relief in the manner characteristic of Léopold Wiener's medallic artistry. The engraver's signature L. WIENER appears in small letters beneath the truncation at the lower right of the field. A continuous circular legend surrounds the portrait, divided by the bust, reading LEOPOLD II ROI DES BELGES SOUV. DE L'ETAT INDEP. DU CONGO. The whole is enclosed within a fine beaded border.
