Additional information

The Institut d'Émission de l'Afrique Équatoriale Française et du Cameroun was a transitional monetary authority, created in 1955 to manage currency for French Equatorial Africa and Cameroun as France began restructuring its colonial financial apparatus ahead of independence. This 1958 pattern was struck just two years before most of the constituent territories — Chad, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, and Cameroun — achieved sovereignty. Essais from this body are notably scarce; production runs for such pieces were typically counted in the dozens.
