Burundi's 2014 aluminium wildlife series was issued largely for the collector market rather than general circulation, a pattern common among small francophone central African states seeking foreign exchange through numismatic exports. The Crowned Eagle — Stephanoaetus coronatus — is one of Africa's most powerful raptors, capable of taking prey several times its own body weight, and remains present in Burundi's Kibira forest remnants.
