Opmerkingen

De Curaçaosche Bank was established in 1828 as the sole note-issuing institution for the Dutch Caribbean territories, a monopoly it held for well over a century. By the 1930s, Curaçao's economy was being reshaped by the Shell refinery at Willemstad — one of the largest in the world at the time — which brought an influx of wage labor and a genuine need for reliable small-denomination notes in everyday circulation.

Enschedé had printed for the bank since its earliest issues. The Haarlem firm's engraved intaglio work on this series is characteristically fine, and the notes were produced to a high security standard despite the modest face value.
