Obverse description The obverse is printed on a polymer substrate with a multicolour guilloche underprint in pale pink, lavender and light blue tones. At upper centre appears the bank title in red and dark blue serif lettering, while the central vignette presents an intaglio rendering of the Parliament House building in Port Moresby, with its distinctive sweeping roofline rendered in fine-line engraving in dark blue and red. To the left, the national coat of arms — a Bird of Paradise above a traditional spear and hornbill — is printed in violet intaglio, accompanied by two facsimile signatures labelled GOVERNOR and SECRETARY / DEPARTMENT OF TREASURY; to the right, a decorative numeral 5 and a Kina shell motif appear, with the denomination FIVE KINA inscribed in dark blue.

Reverse description The reverse displays a vivid multicolour composition centred on traditional Papua New Guinean cultural artefacts rendered in fine intaglio engraving: a Kina shell crescent ornament, a carved ceremonial mask with feather headdress, and an elaborate shell and fibre necklace, all set against a warm orange and yellow patterned underprint of traditional geometric motifs. A stylised numeral 5 in ornamental script occupies the upper left, and the denomination FIVE KINA is inscribed vertically at the right margin in red. The bank title BANK OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA appears along the lower margin in dark red serif lettering, and a transparent polymer window with the Kina shell symbol is visible at lower left.
