A three-quarter portrait of King Sisavang Vong in military uniform occupies an ornate cartouche at right, with a large blank underprint panel at left reserved for the serial number area. A central vignette panel in elaborate scrollwork carries the denomination in Lao script, flanked by bilingual signature lines reading 'LE GOUVERNEUR' and 'UN CENSEUR' in French and Lao. The Lao bank title 'ບະນາຄານແຫ່ງລາວ' runs across the top border, with numeral '5' corner pieces in all four corners. |

Bradbury Wilkinson printed this note for the Banque Nationale du Laos during one of the most turbulent stretches in the country's post-independence history — the period spanning the collapse of the coalition government, the intensification of the Pathet Lao insurgency, and the effective end of the Royal Lao Government by 1975. That the same design remained in circulation across such an extended window, from 1962 through 1976, reflects chronic monetary disruption rather than institutional stability.
Bradbury Wilkinson's New Malden facility produced currency for dozens of newly independent states through the 1960s. The Laos contract was one of several Southeast Asian commissions the firm held concurrently.
