Slovakia's March 1939 declaration of independence — engineered under direct Nazi pressure days after Hitler summoned Jozef Tiso to Berlin — created the immediate bureaucratic problem of a new state needing its own coinage almost overnight. Aluminium was already a favored wartime metal across Axis-aligned economies, and its selection here reflects both material pragmatism and political alignment.
