Handelsstederne i Grönland — the Royal Greenland Trade Department — operated as a state monopoly controlling virtually all commerce in Greenland, and its notes functioned as a closed-currency system: valid only within the trading posts, useless anywhere else. This was by design. The monopoly had every incentive to keep scrip circulating internally rather than leaking out as claims against Danish crown reserves.

V. Søborg & Stühr were a Copenhagen lithographic firm, not a security printer in the conventional sense. The relatively modest production quality this implies is worth noting for attribution purposes.
