Obverse description Central field features the national emblem of the Maldives: a crescent and star device flanked by two crossed national flags on staffs, surmounted by a coconut palm tree. A ribbon scroll bearing the Arabic inscription 'Ad-Dawlat al-Maḥaldībīya' (State of the Maldives) appears below the emblem. The date is rendered in both Western numerals (1960) to the left and Arabic-Indic numerals (١٣٧٩) to the right, positioned in the upper field within the scalloped border.
