| 备注 |
The Deutsche Notenbank was the East German state bank of issue from 1948 until 1968, when it was renamed the Staatsbank der DDR. This 1964 5 Mark note was printed at the Leipzig facility of the Staatsdruckerei, the GDR's own state printing works — a deliberate policy of keeping currency production entirely within East German hands, unlike some earlier DDR issues that relied on Soviet-sector resources.
The watermark is the sole security feature, modest even by the standards of Warsaw Pact currencies of the period. Notes from this series circulated heavily; worn examples are the rule, not the exception.
