At centre, the issuer's name MAGYAR NEMZETI BANK appears in bold letterpress, with the date line BUDAPEST, 1938 ÉVI JANUÁR HÓ 15-ÉN above it. To the left, the Hungarian coat of arms is set within an oval medallion, while to the right a finely engraved vignette portrait of a young woman in a circular frame occupies the right field. | Reverse description | Printed in shades of brown and red-brown, the reverse is dominated by an elaborate guilloche rosette at centre bearing the large numeral 5 within an oval, flanked by the word PENGŐ below and ÖT PENGŐ above in a decorative cartouche. Surrounding the central device, the denomination is repeated in multiple languages within a circular band: Hungarian, German (FÜNF PENGŐ), Russian (ПЕТ ПЕНГО), Serbian/Croatian (ЋИН ЦИ ПЕНГО), Romanian (ÖT PENGŐ), and Swedish (PÄT PENGŐ). The numeral 5 appears again at both lateral extremities, and the serial number is printed in red at lower left and lower right. |
