One of the most geographically isolated guerrilla currency issues of the Philippine resistance, this note was produced at Brooke's Point — a small coastal settlement on Palawan's southern tip — while the rest of the archipelago remained under Japanese occupation. Palawan's isolation, which made it one of the last major islands to fall, also made it one of the few places where provincial civil authority maintained enough continuity to issue its own scrip through 1944.
Brooke's Point is named for James Brooke, the British Rajah of Sarawak, reflecting Palawan's proximity to Borneo rather than any particular connection to Luzon.
