| Obverse description | Printed in black on white paper with an elaborate guilloche border. A central intaglio vignette at top centre shows two allegorical figures beside a barrel and bale of goods. Four oval counters bearing the denomination '5 Pesos' occupy the corners, and a large cross-hatched panel at centre carries the issuer's name 'LA CONFEDERACION ARGENTINA' in bold letterpress above the denomination in words and a clause in Spanish acknowledging redemption in silver. The word 'SPECIMEN' is overprinted in large serif capitals across the lower portion of the note. |

The Administración de Hacienda y Crédito Público was Mexico's treasury authority during a period of near-constant fiscal instability — the 1850s saw the country lurching between conservative and liberal governments, each inheriting debts the other had refused to honor. Notes issued under this authority carried real political risk: a change in administration could render them worthless overnight, and often did.
The incomplete date is not a blank error but deliberate practice — ABNC delivered sheets undated, with the issuing office filling in the year at the point of distribution. That detail alone tells you something about how tenuous the production and redemption cycle actually was.
