Obverse description The central vignette presents a scene of two fishermen in a traditional outrigger canoe on calm waters, rendered in a brown intaglio engraving typical of Bradbury Wilkinson's work. The denomination numeral "5" appears in ornate circular cartouches at each upper corner, with intricate guilloche underprint framing the composition on all sides. Place of issue "WELLINGTON" is printed centrally below the vignette, with signature titles "MINISTER OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS FOR NEW ZEALAND" at lower left and "SECRETARY TO THE NEW ZEALAND TREASURY" at lower right.
