Guernsey was the only British territory to remain under German occupation for the entire duration of the war, and this note was issued immediately following liberation in May 1945 to replace the occupation currency that had accumulated in circulation. The island's printing infrastructure had been used — and strained — throughout the occupation years, so the States simply continued using their own press for the liberation issue rather than waiting on London.
Chepmell signed as HM Comptroller. The series is sometimes split by signature variant, making P#33B the more sought of the post-occupation printings.
