Additional information

Botswana's independence came in September 1966, making this 1976 issue a tenth-anniversary commemorative. The pula currency itself had only been introduced in 1976 — replacing the South African rand, which had circulated by default since independence — so this coin was struck in the same year the monetary system it celebrates was born.
