Venda ceased to exist as a nominally independent homeland in 1994 when it was reincorporated into South Africa under the post-apartheid constitutional settlement. The fact that coins bearing its name were still being issued nearly a quarter-century later places this squarely in the territory of numismatic fantasy — produced for collector markets rather than any functioning issuing authority.
